Sunil Mistry
FinOps Senior Manager
Before I started with flinder, I was with an accountancy firm for about six years. Just before Covid, I joined an audit firm but found that it wasn't for me. That then led me to flinder. I had been looking to gain some management experience and flinder gave me that opportunity.
The biggest appeal for me has been how flinder's start-up nature and approach has accelerated my development and afforded me a lot of opportunity in the autonomy of the role as well. It's been a great experience!
In managing my team, I've been blessed with a hard-working and committed team. We've all developed and benefited from our shared experiences together. Initially, I was fairly hands-on but it's not so necessary now as we've all grown together. I can step back because my pod team is more self-sufficient, they know what's expected, including the offshore team.
I definitely think in terms of the flinder culture and our hybrid approach we are able to bring our personal lives into our work life and it's been greatly appreciated by so many of us. I like being in the office too as it helps us be cohesive as an overall team. I think as a manager, it's the perfect environment for me, you get what you put in - you have to put your all in and explore your growth potential so you can keep growing. There's no ceiling here which is great. There's always more opportunity and blank canvas to develop on.
I think we have a good manager peer group and I find the support among the group really helpful.
In my own personal experience, I find the founders to be really refreshing. Working with our CEO Alastair on a recent article for The Journal, I found his thought process inspiring and how it provokes your own thoughts. He is very developmental, very high-level, always steering flinder in the right direction as he has such an understanding of the space in which we operate.
Luke, our COO, is like an amazing handy man, knows everything about everything and how to always get things done.
I'm looking forward to the years to come and developing my commercial skills within the business. I've really enjoyed being immersed and involved in what we do and see the benefit to both my own as well as flinder's growth.
