we applied our onboarding approach starting with the vision and strategy of the business, which meant we discussed and understood The Legal Director’s business model and strategy on day 1. we also very quickly understood the key reporting metrics and redefined the way information was delivered to the Board. face to face meetings were important to fully brief Ed in advance of the Board meetings and give him the confidence he needed to present to the rest of the Board.
while we always assess the balance between efficiency, control and insight, our primary objective was to provide greater insight to the Board through better management information; redefining how we deliver insight through real-time data analytics, management commentary and a pre Board briefing alleviated the pain and stress from Ed and enabled the Board to spend more time discussing the right things rather than questioning the numbers. we also eliminated the need for month-end manipulation of spreadsheets meaning the Directors can view KPIs real-time mid-month and make more informed decisions more quickly.
we eliminated the inefficient, manual processes, specifically around month-end reporting by integrating their finance system (Xero) into our own reporting layer to provide real-time reporting. we shortened the 2 – 3 days Ed was spending during his weekend to only a few hours and gave him back significant time to drive the business forward. overall, we improved the reporting to give Ed complete confidence the management information is accurate and relevant.
